Supervising Attorney - Juvenile Rights Practice Appeals
The candidate will develop a training program on appellate practice and to supervise and mentor trial attorneys who seek to gain appellate experience including writing appellate briefs. Act as a liaison between the Appeals Unit and the trial offices to establish best practices to ready cases for appeal, and to spot common or novel issues that require strategies to address them. Lead dedicated and dynamic teams of attorneys, who represent the clients of the Juvenile Rights Appeals Unit. Directly mentor, train, and supervise staff to foster professional development and growth. Assist with monitoring the productivity of staff attorneys in all facets of Appeals representation, including record review, issue selection and appellate brief writing. Screen cases for potential issues to raise on appeal or in other post-disposition litigation. Review and revise briefs in preparation for filing. Carry a caseload consisting of direct appeals. Engage in strategic planning to increase the efficiency of JRP Appeals and ensure that clients continue to receive the highest quality representation.
