A law firm seeks a workers' compensation defense attorney in Roanoke, VA. The ideal candidate will have experience in workers' compensation defense, including depositions, motions, and client interactions. This growth-oriented role offers the opportunity to manage all phases of litigation.

Duties

• Represent employers and insurance carriers in workers' compensation litigation from inception to resolution.
• Draft pleadings, discovery, motions, and briefs.
• Manage mediations and conduct depositions of claimants, witnesses, and medical experts.
• Prepare for and appear at hearings, trials, and settlement conferences.
• Analyze claims exposure and develop cost-effective defense strategies.
• Collaborate with clients, adjusters, and medical professionals to assess risk and settlement posture.
• Manage an active caseload, ensuring compliance with statutory deadlines.
• Track and manage billable hours according to firm policies and client guidelines.

Requirements

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Active membership in the Virginia Bar or plans to take the Virginia Bar.
• 1-5 years of experience in workers' compensation defense.
• Experience with depositions, pretrial motions, expert witnesses, and hearings.
• Strong academic background with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Effective legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
• Ability to manage deadlines and responsibilities independently.

• Juris Doctor (J.D.)
