Assistant Dean of Students
The candidate provides leadership concerning the administration of the non-academic Student Conduct Program and will conduct prompt, thorough and equitable investigations. Coordinates conduct formal hearings and interprets University policies. The Assistant Dean of Students also serves as a Deputy Title IX Coordinator and is the primary investigator for all Sexual Misconduct & Relationship Violence cases involving students. Related tasks include developing and providing trainings for students, staff, and faculty members, as well as supervising assigned graduate student staff members. Assist the Associate Dean of Students with the administration of the non-academic Student Conduct Program by interpreting University policies, Residence Life Community Living Standards, and the BGSU Code of Student Conduct. Investigate potential policy violations by students and recognized student organizations in a prompt, thorough, and equitable manner by reviewing initial reports, meeting with involved individuals, organizing and assessing information to determine if a policy violation occurred using the preponderance of the evidence standards, and assigning appropriate sanctions when appropriate. Serve as a Deputy Title IX Coordinator and primary investigator for assigned Sexual Misconduct & Relationship Violence cases involving students by conducting prompt, equitable, and impartial investigations into complaints. Investigations will likely include identifying and interviewing relevant parties; identifying, gathering, and assessing/analyzing information pertinent to the investigation; applying relevant policies; and make findings of fact for all assigned cases. Serves as the primary liaison to the Office of Residence Life via the coordination of trainings for all residential conduct hearing officers and act as a resource for process questions from the staff as they investigate and adjudicate alleged misconduct. Work in collaboration with Campus Activities staff to oversee investigations involving recognized student organizations. Directly supervise assigned graduate interns and practicum students working with the Student Conduct Program. Assist in the response to student emergencies and provide crisis intervention and management as needed. The Assistant Dean will serve in the rotations for the Office of the Dean of Students Walk-In and Dean on Duty programs as well as participate on the Expressive Event Team. Coordinate formal hearings of the University Conduct Committee, Alternative Resolution Board, and the Residential Conduct Committee and may serve as chair of these formal hearings. Provide training and support to all formal hearing board members. Assist with coordination of the annual Student Handbook review process and coordinate the Personal Responsibility Workshop and daily City Blotter review. Consult with and provide leadership and direction to other ODOS staff regarding student conduct and behavioral issues. Serve as a resource to students, parents/families, faculty and staff regarding crises, student issues, and conduct investigations. Participate on the Student Conduct & Felony Admissions Review Committee. Consult with and provide leadership and direction to other ODOS staff regarding student conduct and behavioral issues. Participate on the Student Conduct & Felony Admissions Review Committee. Bachelor’s degree required. Must have Bachelor’s degree conferred at the time of application. Plus, the following required experience. Should have 3+ years of working with and/or administering university student conduct processes and 3+ years of experience utilizing Student Conduct and/or Title IX interviews to gather information to determine outcomes (Examples might include conducting confidential investigations, case assessment, or case management) OR Master's Degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Guidance and Counseling or related field or a Juris Doctorate preferred. Plus, the following required experience. Must have 2+ years of working with and/or administering university student conduct processes and 2+ years of experience utilizing Student Conduct and/or Title IX interviews to gather information to determine outcomes (Examples might include conducting confidential investigations, case assessment, or case management). Should preferably have residence Life and/or Fraternity and Sorority Life experience. Should have experience conducting student organization and hazing investigations. Should have experience with coordinating assessment/evaluation. Conflict Mediation/Restorative Justice experience is essential. Should have experience interpreting or enforcing policies. Knowledge of student conduct management system software (e.g., Maxient) is essential.
