Profile

A law firm in Seattle is seeking an IP Patent Prosecution Life Sciences Associate Attorney. The ideal candidate will have a PhD (or MD with research experience) in a related life sciences field and will be responsible for handling patent prosecution matters in the life sciences practice. The role requires strong academic credentials, excellent communication skills, and a minimum of 1 year of legal practice experience, preferably at a law firm.

 

Duties:

  • Handle patent prosecution matters in the life sciences practice.
  • Conduct thorough research in various fields of life sciences, including organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, cell biology, immunology, molecular biology, microbiology, oncology, gene editing, and gene therapy.
  • Draft and prosecute patent applications in the U.S. and other jurisdictions.
  • Provide strategic advice to clients on patentability, freedom-to-operate, and patent portfolio management.
  • Assist in the preparation of legal opinions regarding patent infringement and validity.
  • Collaborate with clients, inventors, and other legal professionals to gather information and understand complex scientific concepts.
  • Participate in meetings and discussions with clients to provide updates and recommendations on patent prosecution matters.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in patent laws and regulations.

 

Requirements:

  • PhD (or MD with research experience) in organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, cell biology, immunology, molecular biology, microbiology, oncology, gene editing, gene therapy, or a related field.
  • Admission to the Bar in the relevant jurisdiction.
  • Member of (or eligible to be a member of) the bar of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Strong academic credentials.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Minimum of 1 year of legal practice experience, preferably at a law firm.

 

Education:

  • PhD (or MD with research experience) in a related life sciences field.
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

 

Certifications:

  • Admission to the Bar in the relevant jurisdiction.
  • Member of (or eligible to be a member of) the bar of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

  • Excellent drafting and prosecuting patent applications.
