Description

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Clinical Program Manager, the Supervisor on Duty (SOD) is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the clients. The Supervisor on Duty is responsible for the campus wide support of specific Program Standards, providing leadership and assistance to staff and clients in resolving crisis situations, and acting as the liaison between staff and supervisors not on duty. The Supervisor on Duty will also be responsible for assisting the Residential Counselors in providing daily supervision of the clients. Participates in the SOD on call rotation as assigned by the STRTP leadership team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Campus Wide Support

• Provides child care and supervision for the clients.

• Maintain continuous communication with Residential Counselors to ensure that safe and effective supervision of clients occurs at all times.

• Acts as a mediator between staff and youth by providing leadership and assistance in resolving crisis situations.

• Provides constructive feedback to RC’s in a professional manner with the intention of promoting growth and learning.

• Perform intake duties in the Intake Coordinator’s absence and assist youth with smooth transition to program/dorm.

• Develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with all youth while maintaining boundaries.

• Pro-actively check in with the youth frequently to prevent crisis situations.

• Remain with staff and clients during a crisis situation until resident returns to their baseline behavior pattern.

• Assist clients in de-escalating after a crisis situation, conduct LSI and complete any necessary documentation.

• Ensure that staff is utilizing proper TCI intervention/techniques.

• Intervene in crisis situations as instructed in TCI to ensure safety of clients, assume lead role when intervention involves use of physical containment.

• Analyze crisis situations to determine the cause of the problem and possible ways to prevent the situation in the future. Discuss situation analysis with staff and supervisors as needed.

• Assist as needed in the development and implementation of Safety Plans for youth displaying high risk behaviors.

• Ensure staffing ratios are met at all times.

• Notifies direct rapports of new policies and protocols.

• Obtains on call staff availability on a weekly basis and maintains time cards.

• Work with Recreation Coordinator to implement and support individual Dorm Schedules and campus Activity Schedules.

• May need to restrain clients as instructed per TCI to ensure the safety of staff and clients.

• Participate with the youth in a variety of recreational activities to help build and maintain positive relationships with the clients.

• Document incidents restraints and crisis in accordance with agency and Community Care Licensing standards.

• Communicate with Program Supervisor, Residential Counselors, Social Workers and Program Teams and CRH clinic regarding issues concerning the clients as needed, for continuity of care.

• Provide transportation for clients as needed.

• Perform other agency duties as assigned.

Personnel and Quality Management

• Supervises and supports the residential program staff, including maintenance of up-to-date schedules that meet regulatory requirements.

• Oversees and participates in the interviewing and hiring process, ensuring compliance with all agency and regulatory policies, practices and laws.

• Responsible for the collection, review, approval and submission of direct reports’ timesheets. Ensure staff adhere to agency timeframes, policies and procedures with regard to timesheets.

• Assists staff with identification of individual skill or knowledge deficits and facilitate availability of learning opportunities and develop and administer a plan for development.

• Oversees staff, providing the necessary and appropriate counseling or disciplinary action in accordance with agency policies, consulting with the Human Resources Manager when major disciplinary action is needed.

• Adheres to policies, procedures and regulations of the Children’s Receiving Home.

• Ensures orientation and training for new staff and subsequently ensure staff are enrolled in and/or have completed required training.

• Ensures completion and routing of all required original personnel and training forms and records to the Human Resources and Training Departments respectively.

• Conducts timely performance evaluations for direct reports as well as monitoring timeliness of all performance evaluations.

• Models, and supports the principles and practices of quality management.

• Maintains a focus on outcomes for assigned program.

• Ensures staff engagement with families and children in a manner that respects ethnic and cultural practices/customs/and differences. Utilizes a strength based approach when engaging.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supports and supervises Residential Counselors.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/ or ability required. Ability to work varied hours including nights, weekends and holidays. Education/Experience:

Required

• BA/BS Degree, or Child Development Teaching Permit

• or 12 semester units of Early Childhood Education (ECE) units, Adolescent Development units, Foster and Kinship Care Education and at least 100 hours of experience working with youth

• or valid certificate as an Alcohol Counselor, Drug Counselor or Alcohol and Drug Counselor and at least 100 hours experience working with youth

• or valid Vocational Training certificate, credential or documentation demonstrating experience as a trade journeyperson who instructs children in vocational skills and at least 100 hours experience working with youth

• or previously employed as a staff or volunteer at a group home or short-term therapeutic center for at least one year.

Licenses, Certifications, Registrations:

• Must have Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification and Mastered TCI – LSI 1 Status.

• Must possess a valid California Driver’s License. Must be able to meet the Agency’s rules and be eligible to drive for business. The Agency’s insurance carrier reserves the right to exclude applicants based on their driving record.

• Must be at least 21 years of age.

• Must pass First Aid certification course before start of employment. Certification can be completed through the Children’s Receiving Home.

• Must pass CPR within the first six weeks of employment

• Must pass Bloodborne Pathogens and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification courses offered through the Children’s Receiving Home within the first three months of employment.

• Must maintain TCI, CPR, First Aid and BBP Certification throughout employment.

• Must complete online Mandated Reporter Training within first week of employment.

Knowledge, Skills and Other Abilities:

• Knowledge of and ability to use Microsoft Office Suite and web browsers effectively.

• Ability to read, speak, understand, analyze and interpret documents such as client safety/treatment plans, assessment materials and procedure manuals in the English language.

• Ability to write professional/clinical reports and correspondence.

• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

• Skill to instruct, direct, counsel, and encourage individuals and groups of children.

• Knowledge of crisis management counseling techniques and practices.

• Ability to maintain discipline and group control in a therapeutic manner.

• Skill to communicate effectively in written and oral form.

• Skill to listen attentively to residents, co-workers and supervisors.

• Skill to plan and organize multiple tasks at one time.

• Excellent observation and assessment skills.

• Knowledge of child/adolescent development, and/or child psychology to identify and encourage age appropriate behavior, as well as understand the residents’ behaviors and reactions is preferred.

• Knowledge of medications and their reactions is preferred.

• Knowledge of basic mathematics, including addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication.

• Ability to relate with children in a nurturing and respectful manner.

• Ability to establish and maintain appropriate boundaries with children and families.

• Ability to work cooperatively with a culturally diverse resident population and work force.

• Ability to work with community and outside agencies in a collaborative and cooperative manner.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and talk or hear. Fine motor skills such as typing, the use of a computer mouse and telephone handset is required.

Employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to sit, stoop, kneel and crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
