A law firm seeks an associate to join the Export Controls team within the International Trade and Regulatory Compliance practice group in Washington, DC. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in U.S. export controls, focusing on ITAR and EAR, and providing compliance counseling to companies.

Duties

• Provide compliance counseling on U.S. export controls, focusing on ITAR and EAR.
• Engage with U.S. Departments of State, Commerce, and Treasury.
• Advise on sanctions and OFAC regulations.
• Work on sophisticated legal matters with direct client contact.
• Travel internationally as required.

Requirements

• 3rd-7th year associate experience.
• Experience with U.S. export controls, ITAR, and EAR.
• Government experience with compliance counseling preferred.
• Familiarity with sanctions and OFAC regulations is a plus.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure.
• Quantitative capabilities and background in accounting or economics preferred.

Education

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Active membership and standing in the District of Columbia Bar.

Skills

• Proficiency with Excel.
