Forestry Technician (Timber Sale Administration), GS 07-10

Duties: The candidate will monitor, inspect and document timber sale operations. Will take action within delegated authority to enforce contract provisions. Function as sale administrator on the most complex sales on the unit. Review the contract and related pre-sale data such as preliminary logging plan, environmental assessment, appraisal, etc. Responsible for continuing field inspection and control of purchaser's operations such as falling, skidding and yarding, loading, hauling, and all log accountability requirements. Advise purchaser's field representative of adequacy or inadequacy of operations and achieves compliance with contract terms, including safety and employment requirements. Ensure that all contractual obligations are met before making final inspection and recommending sale closure. Review the timber sales contract package; determines plans and arranges for the resources needed to complete the layout of sales. Apply practical forestry methods, techniques and practices including tree species identification, practical surveying, timber volume estimating, and slash disposal methods to locate points or lines on the ground. Advise other resource specialists of activities relating to their speciality; seek advice on new or sensitive issues; and ensure that resource monitoring is done in a timely manner. Prepare general logging plans and verifies logging system settings.
