Special Assistant Attorney General

The candidate will follow the written Protocol of the Task Force, attend and participate in victim and witness interviews with Officer in Charge. Will review police reports and evidence logs. Review and understand DNA Lab Reports and know how to present evidence at trial. Review warrant requests and make charging decisions. Represent the People of the State of Michigan in all stages of case prosecution including arraignments, preliminary examinations, motion hearings, trial and sentencing. Research legal issues and prepare and file written motions necessary for cases. Maintain case files in an organized manner. Review files for closure, prepare closure memos and update databases. Document all aspects of case prosecution through ACT and CODIS/INV databases. Confer with Supervisor regarding development of cases and notify chain of command of significant events in each case. Attend required team and office meetings. Participate in required trainings for position. Maintain professional demeanor and appearance in Court and office. Maintain daily activity log necessary for Grant reporting and provide other statistical information when necessary. Must possess a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school. Should be licensed by the State Bar of Michigan with an active P# and status of Good Standing. Must have a valid Michigan Driver’s License. Should have 5+ years of criminal trial experience with concentration in Criminal Sexual Conduct cases, vertical prosecution and jury trial experience preferred. Prior training in Forensic Interviewing, Neurobiology of Trauma and DNA as it pertains to sexual assault is preferred. Proficient computer skills including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, ACT, Outlook, and Westlaw is needed.
