A leading global law firm is seeking an experienced Privacy Counsel to join its U.S. Data Protection, Privacy, and Cybersecurity practice group. This role primarily focuses on advising clients on compliance with U.S. federal and state privacy laws and international data protection frameworks such as GDPR. The ideal candidate will bring significant experience in privacy compliance, data governance, regulatory investigations, and cross-border data strategies. This is a strong opportunity for a privacy-focused attorney seeking a high-level role within a collaborative, innovation-driven environment.
Advise on compliance with U.S. privacy laws, including CCPA/CPRA, HIPAA, COPPA, TCPA, and the FTC Act
Provide counsel on global frameworks such as GDPR and cross-border data transfer laws
Develop and assess privacy compliance programs and data governance structures
Draft and negotiate data protection agreements, privacy policies, and vendor contracts
Counsel clients on digital products, advertising, AI, big data, and emerging technology privacy implications
Manage privacy aspects of M&A due diligence and post-deal integration
Support clients during regulatory investigations and consumer complaints
Assist with incident response strategy and regulatory notifications
Contribute to data governance and enterprise risk management frameworks
Participate in tabletop exercises and review incident response plans
Minimum of 3–7 years of experience in privacy law
Experience advising on U.S. federal and state privacy frameworks; knowledge of GDPR preferred
Prior experience counseling clients on privacy program implementation and data lifecycle management
Strong understanding of data use in digital products, advertising, AI, and emerging tech
Law firm experience preferred; in-house experience considered with appropriate depth
Client-facing experience with strong communication and advisory skills
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school
Active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
IAPP certifications such as CIPP/US, CIPT, or similar (preferred)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage complex matters independently
Strong client service orientation and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
Detail-oriented with strong analytical and strategic thinking skills
