A law firm based in Walnut Creek, CA, seeks a dedicated Municipal Law Associate Attorney to support its growing practice advising public sector clients. This opportunity is ideal for a legal professional with a strong background in transactional municipal law who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about public agency representation. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in legal research, draft regulatory documents, and participate in public meetings, supporting various aspects of local governance.

Duties:

• Draft ordinances, resolutions, and related regulatory documents

• Provide legal guidance on land use, zoning, and municipal planning issues

• Advise clients on open meeting laws and transparency requirements

• Interpret and apply election regulations, ethics laws, and public safety statutes

• Handle legal matters involving free speech, conflicts of interest, and constitutional concerns

• Attend and advise public officials during city council and commission meetings

• Support public agencies in compliance and governance best practices

Requirements:

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in municipal or public agency transactional law

• Strong background in open meeting laws, land use, election law, and government ethics

• Proven experience advising on or attending public meetings

• Admission to the California State Bar

• Demonstrated ability to manage complex legal issues independently

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications:

• Active license to practice law in the State of California

Skills:

• Excellent legal writing and analytical skills

• Strong oral communication and public presentation ability

• Ability to navigate multidisciplinary legal issues within public sector frameworks

• Organized and detail-oriented with the ability to handle multiple priorities
