Legal Internship
Intern will work with the Legal Program to provide trauma-informed consultations to clients in a variety of other legal topics impacting survivors including family and immigration law. This part-time (10-20 hours/ week) internship position is ideal for an individual who wants to be an essential part of an effort to break the cycle of abuse in community. Will learn about family and criminal law while gaining hands on legal experience under the direct supervision of experienced attorneys. Interview clients for representation in Protective Order and Crime Victims’ Rights cases. Assist attorneys with case preparation, including drafting motions and other materials for court. Work with Legal Program Director, Staff Attorney and Victim Advocates to provide confidential trauma-informed consultations to victims of domestic abuse with information about the legal processes and options available to them. Research relevant case law. Monitor current legislative proposals and draft advocacy materials for supervising attorney. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and documentation in database. Should demonstrate interest in issues of gender inequality, gender-based violence, or victim advocacy. Completion of at least one semester of law school is required.
