Profile

Our firm:

Blandy & Blandy is a leading Thames Valley law firm, with offices in Reading

and Henley-on-Thames

. With a team of 50 specialist solicitors and advisers, we are here to represent our clients in life and business, committed to developing long-lasting relationships and to delivering outstanding client care. Our successful approach is reflected in a series of rankings, nominations and awards and through the outstanding feedback

we continue to receive. Since 2003, we have also held the Law Society’s Lexcel quality mark, which recognises firms that achieve excellence in legal practice management and client care.

This role:

The application process for a training contract, based in Reading

, is now open.

Trainee Solicitor

Many of our current partners and colleagues trained at Blandy & Blandy, including our joint managing partners Tim Clark and Jonathan Gater and our training partner, Debbie Brett.

We attach a great deal of importance to recruiting trainee solicitors, who we view as an important investment in our firm's future. Wherever possible, we aim to retain and continue to develop those who have trained with us.

Over time, our successful approach has been recognised through a series of rankings, nominations and awards, including at the LawCareers.Net Training & Recruitment Awards, in the Lex 100 Survey and by Best Companies. Factors such as the quality of work undertaken and the level of client contact our trainees enjoy, alongside a welcoming and supportive culture, job satisfaction and good work/life balance have all been praised by our trainee solicitors.

Training programme:

Our trainee solicitors typically spend six months in four departments (known as seats) over a two year period. Wherever possible, we aim to cater to your individual preferences.

Trainee solicitors typically share office space with their assigned supervisor (a partner or associate solicitor), to support continuous professional development and allow you to experience the day-to-day challenges of a qualified solicitor.

Trainees also complete a compulsory PSC (professional skills course). There are three core areas covered - business skills, advocacy and client care – while you are also able to choose electives in areas of law that are of greatest interest. Most of these training days take place in Oxford, Guildford or London and it is a good chance for you to meet fellow trainees from other law firms in the region.

There are regular informal reviews and a formal appraisal is held every six months to review and discuss your progress and identify areas for future development.

Trainees are actively encouraged to attend, and sometimes asked to support, seminars, networking events and careers fairs.

Seats are typically available in the following departments:

Commercial Property

Corporate & Commercial

Dispute Resolution

Employment

Family

Planning & Environmental

Probate, Tax & Trusts

Residential Property

To be considered, candidates must have:

A strong academic background

2:1 (hons) degree or above

Completed (or expect to) the LPC

Demonstrable relevant work experience

Enthusiasm, resourcefulness and excellent communication and IT skills

A competitive salary and benefits package

is offered.

Please note that we are not accepting applications from candidates who have applied previously.

To apply for September 2022, please complete our application form

and return a copy by email to hr@blandy.co.uk

What I liked about the service is that it had such a comprehensive collection of jobs! I was using a number of sites previously and this took up so much time, but in joining EmploymentCrossing, I was able to stop going from site to site and was able to find everything I needed on EmploymentCrossing.
