Honors Internship Program, Summer 2021
The Law Department's varied divisions offer summer interns hands-on practical experience. Interns regularly draft motion papers and briefs that are filed in court. Many take or defend depositions. The intern will be placed in the Workers' Compensation division and will participate in all aspects of workers' compensation cases from inception to resolution. Will research alleged injuries and help construct the initial theory of the case. Prepare witnesses for trial and accompany attorneys to the Workers' Compensation Board to hear testimony. Will also prepare memoranda of law to be submitted to the Board. Some interns will have the opportunity to attend arbitration hearings, negotiate settlements with opposing counsel and conduct depositions under supervision. Each summer intern is assigned a mentor. Each intern should receive several major assignments during the summer with different attorney supervisors. The number and nature of assignments vary by division. Should be enrolled in an accredited US or Canadian law school. The interns should work eight of the nine weeks of program, which normally starts the first Monday in June and ends the first Friday in August. Second year summer interns will be preferred.
Note: Weekly stipends of $750 are offered to all second-year summer interns and most first-year summer interns. Out-of-town law student interns may be eligible for free summer housing.
