Defense Litigation Attorney

Profile

A law firm seeks a skilled attorney to join its Syosset, NY, office. This role involves defending complex, high-stakes matters across state and federal courts, with opportunities for professional growth and leadership.

Duties

• Represent clients in a variety of defense matters from case inception through resolution

• Manage a personal docket involving Premises Liability, Catastrophic Injury/Wrongful Death, New York Labor Law and Construction, Maritime, Products Liability, and Transportation/Trucking claims

• Draft and respond to pleadings, discovery requests, and dispositive motions

• Conduct and defend depositions of both party and non-party witnesses

• Collaborate with senior counsel on creative defense strategies and case assessments

• Participate in mediations, pre-trial conferences, and court hearings

• Prepare and update client status reports throughout litigation

Requirements

• 3–5 years of defense litigation experience handling cases through trial or substantial motion practice

• Proven ability to manage a caseload independently, balancing multiple deadlines and court appearances

• Experience drafting and arguing discovery and dispositive motions

• Demonstrated skill in deposing witnesses and defending depositions

• The capacity to think analytically and creatively when developing defense plans

• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications

• Admission to practice in New York State

• Admission (or eligibility and willingness to seek admission) to additional jurisdictions is preferred

• Admission to the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York is preferred
