Duties: Research issues, render opinions, and enforce and administer the law under the General Counsel’s supervision concerning all areas of insurance law. Coordinate with case investigators to ensure information is gathered for successful case preparation and to facilitate the administration and enforcement of agency statutory authority. Respond to inquiries from other divisions within the Department of Insurance, insurers, insurance producers, and the public, and will draft letters and memoranda on issues as requested by the General Counsel or Director. Draft correspondence, motions, pleadings, findings of fact, conclusions of law, rules, orders, and other legal documents to provide legal assistance to teammates or to agency management. Prosecute violations of law against licensed individuals and entities at administrative hearings. Conduct and prepare direct and cross-examinations, opening and closing statements, and settlement negotiations, as well as conferring with other Divisions at the Department of Insurance, witnesses, other attorneys, and other government officials. Serve as hearing officer on behalf of the Director for the Department. Seven. Provide public presentations to consumer, agent, and industry groups. Participate in the adoption and amendment of insurance laws and Department regulations and may, subject to approval by the Director and General Counsel, be assigned to participate in various task force, committee, and sub-committee meetings with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). Assist the Deputy Director/General Counsel and other Department personnel as needed.
