Job Overview:
A leading California-based law firm is seeking a Privacy & Data Protection Associate Attorney with 2–3 years of experience. This role is ideal for attorneys with a passion for privacy law and a desire to work closely with a team of experienced intellectual property and privacy professionals. The successful candidate will support clients ranging from startups to Fortune 500 companies on regulatory compliance, privacy program development, data breach response, and more. Location:
Irvine, CA
Duties:
Advise clients on U.S. and international privacy compliance, including CCPA, GDPR, HIPAA, and GLBA
Draft and negotiate privacy-related agreements, including data processing addenda (DPAs)
Assist in the implementation and management of corporate privacy programs
Respond to and manage data security incidents, including breach notification and legal compliance
Draft internal policies, privacy notices, and incident response plans
Support regulatory investigations and enforcement actions related to data protection and privacy
Provide strategic guidance on advertising, mobile privacy, and internet-based privacy issues
Collaborate with legal teams across multiple disciplines to support business objectives
Requirements:
Minimum of 2–3 years of direct privacy/data protection experience
Familiarity with privacy compliance across multiple jurisdictions and industries
Strong transactional experience involving privacy contract terms and agreements
Ability to manage multiple client matters simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
Education:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
Strong academic performance preferred
Certifications:
Active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (California preferred)
At least one IAPP certification preferred:
CIPP/US
CIPP/E
CIPM
CIPT
Skills:
In-depth knowledge of U.S. and EU privacy laws, including CCPA, GDPR, HIPAA, and related regulations
Experience drafting and negotiating privacy-related documents such as DPAs and vendor agreements
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Excellent organizational and time-management abilities
Ability to translate legal complexities into practical business advice
Proactive, self-motivated, and team-oriented, with sound judgment on escalation and guidance
Capable of working with cross-functional teams, including legal, compliance, and IT
