Job Overview:
A reputable immigration law firm in Connecticut is seeking an entry-level to mid-level Immigration Attorney with 1-10 years of experience for a hybrid (virtual and office) role. The position will involve representing clients in immigration legal proceedings, advising on various immigration matters, and appearing before State probate courts for Special Immigrant Juvenile (SIJ) matters. The ideal candidate should have a strong interest in immigration law and a desire to work in a fast-growing, dynamic firm offering a collaborative environment with experienced senior attorneys and bilingual support staff.

Location:

  • Hartford, CT

Duties:

  • Represent clients in court and before government agencies, including in-person and virtual interviews or hearings
  • Draft and prepare legal documents on behalf of clients
  • Advise clients on immigration matters, including family-based immigration, asylum, removal defense, and waivers
  • Negotiate settlements with DHS counsel
  • Comply with all legal standards and regulations
  • Appear in State probate courts for SIJ matters to assist immigrant youth in obtaining status
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys and paralegals for guidance and support
  • Manage a caseload and maintain effective client communication

Requirements:

  • 1-10 years of experience in immigration law or a strong interest in immigration law
  • Experience in handling immigration applications and proceedings
  • Ability to appear before government agencies and probate courts
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and client relationship-building skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Spanish, Portuguese, or other language skills are a plus (bilingual support staff available)

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active Bar membership in the state of Connecticut (or eligibility to practice in Connecticut)

Skills:

  • Expertise in immigration law, including family-based immigration, asylum, and removal defense
  • Knowledge of immigration applications and court processes
  • Strong legal writing, drafting, and research skills
  • Effective oral advocacy and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate within a team
