A law firm is looking to welcome a proactive Bankruptcy Attorney to its Allen Park team to assist clients facing financial turmoil. This opportunity is suited for a licensed Michigan attorney who brings experience in managing insolvency matters and who thrives on helping individuals regain financial stability through sound legal strategy and advocacy.

Role Responsibilities

  • Counsel individuals and families on debt-relief pathways under both state and federal financial statutes.

  • Oversee client files from intake through discharge, handling everything from initial interviews to court appearances and trustee meetings.

  • Prepare and submit case documentation, including legal petitions, repayment plans, financial statements, and creditor communication.

  • Represent clients in negotiations and hearings, ensuring their interests are protected and voiced effectively.

  • Interpret complex financial disclosures to tailor appropriate strategies for Chapter 7, 11, or 13 proceedings.

  • Keep up with changes in relevant law and court rulings to provide up-to-date guidance and representation.

  • Coordinate with staff and legal assistants to maintain accuracy and efficiency in case preparation and filing.

Desired Background & Core Skills

  • 1 to 6 years of legal experience focused on bankruptcy, debt restructuring, or financial hardship representation.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage a case portfolio autonomously while navigating shifting deadlines and complex court procedures.

  • Excellent communication—both written and verbal—with the ability to explain financial legal concepts in client-friendly terms.

  • Familiarity with federal bankruptcy courts, Michigan’s procedural rules, and electronic filing systems.

  • Strong client service orientation with a problem-solving mindset.

  • Comfortable handling sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism.

Educational Requirements & Licensure

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from a recognized and accredited law school.

  • Must be licensed and in good standing to practice law in the state of Michigan.

  • Additional training or certifications in bankruptcy law, consumer debt counseling, or financial law would be a plus.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Participation in a tax-advantaged 401(k) plan with employer contributions.

  • Firm-supported health and dental insurance contributions.

  • Short- and long-term disability coverage to support personal and professional stability.

  • An environment that values autonomy, collaboration, and client-focused service.
