504 Building-Based Coordinator
Burlington High School is seeking a full time 504 Building-Based Coordinator to improve educational outcomes for students on 504 plans and build innovative structures for the Section 504 program. Responsibilities for this position include managing and coordination of the school’s 504 plans, case management of 504 plans, liaising with other case managers, ensuring implementation compliance with Section 504 law, communication with students and families, oversight and coordination of evaluation requests and processes, collaboration with the school support team members, and education of school staff on 504 requirements.
The Essential Functions of this position include:
Case management of students on 504 plans.
Coordination of 504 plans for the school.
Thorough knowledge of State and Federal laws pertaining to the prohibition of discrimination of individuals with disabilities.
Knowledge and awareness of a broad range of student disabilities (physical, speech, hearing, vision, medical, learning, and or emotional
(Physical, mental, learning, social-emotional
Knowledge in laws, policies, rules and regulations pertaining to Section 504 eligible students.
Skill in working effectively as a team member to develop and implement accommodation and intervention plans.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of privileged and sensitive information
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with administrators, general education teachers, other school and District staff, parents, agencies, and community members.
Ability to sit in multiple meetings per day or for a lengthy period of time
Ability to effectively coach and support counselors, teachers and administrators on their instructional teams.
Ability to organize and manage multiple complex tasks simultaneously and independently to meet deadlines
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, utilizing tact and diplomacy and maintain effective working relationships
Ability to positively impact systematic change within the school in accordance with district goals around equity and access.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of District personnel and outside organizations
The required education and experience of this position include:
Education:
Minimum Required: Bachelor’s degree
Preferred: Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, or Counseling.
Certification Preferred: Valid Educator License granted by the Vermont Department of Education.
Experience:
Minimum Required:
Experience in closely working with, providing direct instruction to, and case-managing students.
Experience in planning, leading and managing large and potentially complex meetings with students, parents, teachers, outside agencies, community mentors, and other support people.
Experience working in a high school or at the secondary level.
Preferred:
Training and experience with a multicultural student environment and/or English Language Learners.
Experience supporting children
(high school students)
with medical, mental, behavioral, and social emotional needs.
Significantly knowledgeable on Section 504 to advise the school on policy, procedures and practices
Working knowledge of Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports - especially at the Tier 2 level.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:
Working knowledge:
Sufficient familiarity with the subject to know basic principles and terminology and to understand and solve simple problems.
General knowledge:
Sufficient knowledge of a field to perform most work in normal situations. The work calls for comprehension of standard situations and includes knowledge of most of the significant aspects of the subject.
Thorough knowledge:
Advanced knowledge of the subject matter. The work calls for sufficient comprehension of the subject area to solve unusual as well as common work problems, to be able to advise on technical matters and to serve as a resource on the subject for others in the organization.
Comprehensive knowledge:
Requires complete mastery and understanding of the subject. This term should be used sparingly and only for unusually exacting or responsible positions required to originate hypotheses, concepts, or approaches.
