Job Overview:

A law firm is seeking an Innovation Attorney for its Austin office to support legal technology adoption, generative AI integration, client-facing innovation, and practice improvement initiatives. This hybrid role works closely with attorneys, practice group leaders, and innovation professionals to develop practical solutions that improve legal service delivery, increase efficiency, enhance client value, and encourage effective use of technology. The position requires an experienced attorney who understands law firm workflows and can translate technology and process improvement concepts into practical solutions for legal teams.

Duties:

  • Lead initiatives focused on improving legal service delivery through workflow design, process optimization, technology implementation, and operational best practices.
  • Evaluate workflows, resource utilization, service models, and industry developments to identify opportunities for greater efficiency, consistency, quality, and client value.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and practice teams to develop, implement, and improve legal processes, tools, and technology-enabled solutions.
  • Advise attorneys on practice innovation, process improvement, legal technology, and service delivery strategies.
  • Develop dashboards, reports, portals, and related tools that provide clients and legal teams with access to matter data, metrics, and insights.
  • Capture and utilize matter, experience, and practice data to improve future service delivery.
  • Support technology-enabled collaboration with clients, local counsel, and other third parties.
  • Manage innovation projects from initial scoping and planning through implementation and completion.
  • Develop project plans, coordinate stakeholders, manage timelines, and track milestones and results.
  • Coordinate cross-functional projects involving attorneys, paralegals, administrators, and business professionals.
  • Support the implementation and adoption of generative AI and other legal technology within practice groups.
  • Identify and develop practical AI and legal technology use cases that align with attorney workflows and organizational priorities.
  • Participate in the testing, evaluation, and expansion of technology-enabled legal solutions.
  • Gather attorney feedback, evaluate usage patterns, and recommend training or workflow improvements to increase technology adoption.
  • Provide individual coaching, troubleshooting, and practical guidance to attorneys using AI and other legal technology tools.
  • Assist with change management efforts to incorporate new technologies and best practices into everyday legal workflows.
  • Identify gaps in practice resources, workflows, and knowledge assets.
  • Support knowledge management initiatives by maintaining accessible practice resources, capturing experience data, and improving access to relevant information.
  • Collaborate with research, information, and other internal teams to integrate useful resources into legal workflows.
  • Develop and deliver onboarding sessions, training programs, demonstrations, workshops, presentations, and written materials related to innovation and technology.
  • Create training materials featuring practical technology and AI use cases for legal professionals.
  • Develop case studies, innovation materials, portal content, and other resources supporting practice visibility and business development.
  • Assist with client seminars, RFP responses, pitches, thought leadership, and other initiatives highlighting innovation capabilities.
  • Participate in broader innovation initiatives and share best practices across teams.

Requirements:

  • At least 4 years of experience practicing as an attorney in a large law firm.
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects or process improvement initiatives involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience coordinating cross-functional workstreams and completing projects within established deadlines.
  • Experience supporting attorneys, clients, or internal stakeholders through change management, training, or process improvement initiatives.
  • Familiarity with legal technology, emerging technologies, and generative AI and their applications to legal service delivery.
  • Understanding of project management, process improvement, and legal service delivery principles.
  • Ability to identify opportunities to increase operational efficiency, technology adoption, and client value.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited institution.
  • Active bar admission in good standing in a U.S. jurisdiction.

  • Ability to quickly learn and effectively use new legal technology and AI-enabled applications.
  • Familiarity with project management tools such as Asana, Monday.com, Microsoft Project, or comparable platforms is preferred.
  • Familiarity with automation, reporting, or client-facing dashboard tools is beneficial.
