Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Litigation Attorney in Los Angeles, CA. The attorney will work within the Personal Injury department and collaborate with other departments, handling all aspects of litigation from drafting complaints to trying cases to verdict.

Duties

• Oversee and manage up to 60 litigation files with support staff.
• Assist and direct staff in day-to-day case management.
• Conduct investigations on pre-litigation and litigation matters.
• Evaluate and execute litigation plans through trial.
• Identify and prepare medical and legal experts for trial.
• Supervise support staff, including a litigation secretary.
• Maintain client and staff communication throughout litigation.
• Perform legal research and prepare necessary legal documents.
• Propound and respond to written discovery.
• Prepare clients for depositions and hearings.
• Attend mediations and court appearances.
• Prepare matters for trial, including trial documents and motions.
• Conduct monthly file reviews with team members.
• Oversee liability investigations of assigned PI matters.
• Manage medical aspects of assigned PI matters.

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate degree and current good standing with CA State Bar.
• Minimum 7 years' experience in a law firm Personal Injury department.
• Excellent interpersonal and social skills.
• Initiative and compassion for Personal Injury services.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Familiarity with Workers' Compensation terminology.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred.

Education

• Juris Doctorate degree.

Certifications

• Current good standing with CA State Bar.

Skills

• Knowledge of medical and legal experts, mediators, judges, and arbitrators.
• Ability to settle cases for full value and negotiate medical liens.
• Knowledge of statute deadlines and government claim timelines.
• Computer skills, including MS Office and online research tools like LEXIS-NEXIS and West Law.
