Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Senior Associate Attorney in Albany, NY, to represent clients in complex family and matrimonial matters. The role requires a compassionate advocate with exceptional communication skills, capable of handling emotionally charged situations with professionalism. Candidates must be based in or near Albany, Buffalo, Syracuse, or Rochester and able to travel within Upstate New York.

Duties

• Represent clients in family law matters, including prenuptial agreements, divorce, custody, and support proceedings.
• Conduct investigations, discovery, negotiations, and trials.
• Develop and execute legal strategies for optimal client outcomes.
• Serve as the primary client contact, providing clear communication and legal advice.
• Draft and review legal documents such as pleadings and settlement agreements.
• Oversee and mentor associates and paralegals.
• Utilize firm resources for efficient case management.
• Stay current on family law developments and CLE requirements.
• Maintain accurate time entries and case documentation.

Requirements

• Admission to the New York State Bar and in good standing.
• Minimum of 5 years of family law experience, including at least 10 trials.
• Certified Divorce Specialist or willingness to obtain certification.
• Completion or willingness to complete mediation or Collaborative Divorce training.

Education

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Certified Divorce Specialist (or willingness to obtain).

Skills

• Excellent negotiation, analytical, and courtroom skills.
• Strong communication and client relationship abilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Westlaw/LexisNexis, and Google Workspace.
• Familiarity with CLIO Grow, CLIO Manage, and Family Law Software preferred.
