Job Title: Partner-Level Attorney - Income Principal

Job Overview:

A prominent law firm located in Washington, DC, seeks an experienced Franchise Law Partner to join its growing business practice group. This opportunity offers the chance to work alongside a dynamic team of attorneys handling sophisticated franchise transactions and regulatory compliance matters across a variety of industries. The role will focus on advising business clients through the full franchise lifecycle, drafting critical agreements, addressing regulatory obligations, and navigating franchise relationship management. Applicants must bring significant franchise law experience and an existing book of business.

Duties:

  • Represent franchisors, franchisees, manufacturers, and distributors involved in licensing and franchise-related activities.

  • Draft and negotiate franchise disclosure documents, franchise agreements, and related contracts.

  • Advise clients on regulatory compliance matters at both the federal and state levels.

  • Manage franchise registration and renewal processes.

  • Address franchise relationship concerns and governmental inquiries.

  • Support dispute resolution and conflict prevention within franchise systems.

  • Collaborate with attorneys across multiple practice areas to deliver comprehensive client solutions.

  • Mentor junior attorneys and contribute to team development initiatives.

  • Engage in diversity, pro bono, and public service activities as desired.

Requirements:

  • A portable book of business (partial or full) is required.

  • Minimum of 7 years of concentrated experience in franchise law.

  • Ability to manage a robust client portfolio with minimal supervision.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills tailored for diverse audiences.

  • Strong business acumen and client-focused approach to legal services.

  • Capacity to handle complex, high-volume work efficiently.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to practice law and active membership in good standing with the Bar of at least one U.S. jurisdiction (DC Bar membership preferred or ability to waive in).

Skills:

  • Expertise in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating franchise-related legal documents.

  • Deep understanding of franchise regulatory frameworks, including compliance obligations.

  • Outstanding legal research, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Exceptional organization and project management capabilities.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong client relationships.

  • Proficient at balancing multiple assignments and meeting tight deadlines.
