Policy Director
Duties: Cultivate individual, departmental and organizational relationships with and accountability to survivors of sexual harm and exploitation. Proactively engage in close communication and collaboration with departmental and organizational leaders. Monitor and identify emerging issues relevant to mission, vision, values and goals. Maintain a deep understanding of the evolving policy and political landscape of Chicago, Cook County, and Illinois. Lead the development of strategic priorities for the Policy Department, based primarily on the responsibility to survivors, relationships with leadership, issue spotting, and policy understanding described above. Develop, plan, and implement campaign activities that serve Policy Department priorities such as lobbying and advocacy, training and education, research, forums, press conferences and media relations. Oversee End Demand Illinois implementation project including justice system education awareness and training program. Cultivate and maintain relationships with elected officials, policymakers, law enforcement, community groups, partner organizations, and other non-traditional individuals and organizations focusing on work that aligns with goals. Develop mutually beneficial partnerships with organizations working on policy campaigns; collecting information, tracking policy efforts, and sharing advocacy and education strategies. Build and nurture effective multi-organizational coalitions and alliances; forging partnerships, actively participating, building consensus, steering coalition members to meet campaign goals, keeping parties engaged. External Communications Work with the Communications Department to ensure high quality, strategic external communication to inform and engage various communities about CAASE Policy work; including specific research, reports, and legislation and policy ideas. Communicate directly with the media regarding policy issues, as managed by the Communications Department. Provide presentations to community groups about policy priorities and campaigns. Represent at local, state, and national convenings, meetings, and events. Department Leadership Keep all staff updated on Policy priorities and campaigns, specifically highlighting work that may require their engagement. Participate in and provide leadership as part of the Departmental Leadership Team, contributing to interdepartmental projects and initiatives. Create and maintain Policy Department annual plans which serve Strategic Plan, organizational goals and have measurable objectives and outcomes. In order to maintain and increase the capacity of the Policy Department, collaboratively work with the Development Department in participating in fundraising activities and events, managing relationships with department funders, preparing grant applications, crafting department goals for specific funders, upholding funder required internal policies, and ensuring timely completion of grant reporting requirements. Work closely with members of the Administrative Team to draft the Policy Department budget and monitor expenses throughout the year ensuring adherence to the budget. Maintain documentation of lobbying activities for funding reports and organizational records. Supervise Policy staff and interns in all Policy Department activities and professional management and development.
