Job Goal:

The Prenatal - Early Childhood Services and Supports Unit of the Somerville Family Learning Collaborative works to develop & implement a comprehensive, research-based strategy for prenatal to early childhood supports, ensuring alignment & coordination with early childhood through Kindgeraten priorities, putting children & families on a path toward school success.

The Early Beginnings Liaison is part of the Birth-5 component of the SFLC which focuses on services for families with young children including: SomerBaby, Home Visiting (ParentChild Program), playgroups, parent support groups, parent workshops, developmental screenings, and a single point of entry for early learning and general referrals.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with parents and children birth to 5yrs old in a group setting.

Ability to create a warm and welcoming environment for culturally diverse families.

Experience working with ethnically and economically diverse communities.

Experience working with families with children with special needs.

Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a dynamic work environment.

Strong attention to detail and ability to work as a team member with minimal supervision.

Ability to effectively communicate and interact with parents, children and staff.

Ability to develop strong working relationships with others.

Ability to organize, operate independently and multi-task.

Ability to utilize technology effectively, including Google Drive and its components (Google Forms, Google Sheets, Google Docs, etc.)

Degree or coursework in early childhood and special education preferred.

Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.

Responsibilities:

Understand and support the SFLC mission and values.

Ability to work independently and on a team.

Follow guidelines, policies & procedures for SFLC Playgroups and support maintenance of safe/developmentally appropriate and educationally rich playgroup environments.

Assist in SFLC Playgroup Registration process.

Manage the playgroup supplies inventory and day-to-day logistics to ensure a smooth, efficient, and consistent quality program.

Act as a substitute in playgroups when needed.

Assist in the ongoing process of: data collection, data entry, impact data, database and email list for families with children birth to 5 years.

Assist in the coordination of SFLC Early Beginnings Trainings.

Assist families by providing referrals and access to community resources.

Assist in organizing and implementing community outreach efforts to identify families of young children and the development of SFLC outreach materials (print and web-based).

Update and maintain the SFLC Playgroup webpage and Facebook page.

Regularly identify, gather, and disseminate resources for families around various topics such as social-emotional development, anti-bias/anti-racism, etc.

Implementation of Ages & Stages developmental screening questionnaire (ASQ), including: preparation of ASQ packets and management of online ASQ Family Access Link.

Assist in all of the SFLC Early Beginnings programming as needed, including leading playgroups and conducting home visits for ParentChild and SomerBaby.

Assist with other SFLC job-related duties as required.

Commit to providing and promoting equitable practices to ensure access for all families.
