Job Overview:
A well-established law firm is seeking a highly skilled Biotechnology Patent Prosecution Associate with at least 2 years of experience. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in biology, molecular biology, cellular biology, biochemistry, or a related discipline. The candidate should possess strong academic credentials and a passion for intellectual property law within the biotechnology field. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex patent matters, representing clients in diverse sectors of biotechnology and providing high-quality legal services.

Location:

  • Irvine, CA

Duties:

  • Prosecute biotechnology patent applications, including drafting and filing patent applications, responding to office actions, and managing client portfolios
  • Provide legal opinions regarding patentability, validity, and infringement matters
  • Conduct patentability searches and FTO (Freedom to Operate) analysis
  • Advise clients on intellectual property strategies and portfolio management
  • Interact with clients and technical teams to understand their inventions and translate technical details into patent applications
  • Represent clients before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
  • Collaborate with other legal professionals and clients to provide comprehensive solutions in biotechnology patent law

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in biotechnology patent prosecution
  • Strong academic credentials with a proven track record in intellectual property law
  • Experience in patent prosecution, including filing and responding to USPTO office actions
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to clients and colleagues
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working with clients in the biotechnology industry

Education:

  • Ph.D. in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active U.S. bar membership
  • Registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

Skills:

  • Expertise in biotechnology patent law and prosecution
  • Strong drafting and legal writing skills
  • Proficiency in patent analysis, patentability searches, and FTO assessments
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong time management and organizational abilities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
