Job Title: Lead Discovery Attorney
Job Overview:
A prominent law firm based in Chicago, IL, seeks a highly skilled Lead Discovery Attorney to manage all facets of discovery in large-scale, high-stakes litigation. This remote, non-partner-track opportunity is ideal for a litigation professional with significant discovery experience and demonstrated leadership in managing complex legal workflows. The successful candidate will spearhead the discovery strategy, supervise attorney teams, and ensure compliance with legal standards in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.
Duties:
Direct discovery strategy and execution in complex litigation matters
Manage workflows for document review, production, redactions, and privilege logs
Supervise and mentor teams of attorneys and litigation support staff
Coordinate data collection, processing, and production with clients, vendors, and legal teams
Draft discovery pleadings, including interrogatories, requests for production, and motions
Serve as liaison for discovery issues with courts, opposing counsel, clients, and vendors
Address challenges related to electronically stored information (ESI), including preservation and retrieval
Perform detailed factual and legal research to support litigation strategy
Develop and implement internal discovery playbooks and best practices
Maintain up-to-date knowledge on discovery law, technology, and eDiscovery protocols such as the EDRM and Sedona Principles
Execute additional tasks aligned with litigation and discovery support as needed
Requirements:
Minimum 7 years of litigation experience with a significant focus on discovery and eDiscovery
Prior experience leading discovery teams or overseeing large-scale review projects
Familiarity with privilege review, metadata analysis, and confidentiality protocols
Advanced knowledge of federal and state discovery rules, including multijurisdictional applications
Proficiency with eDiscovery platforms (e.g., Relativity, DISCO, Everlaw)
Ability to manage multiple priorities in high-pressure, deadline-sensitive environments
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Comfortable working independently and in close collaboration with diverse teams
Education:
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school
Certifications:
Active member in good standing of at least one U.S. State Bar
