Associate Attorney Defense Litigation

Profile

A law firm seeks a litigation associate with 1–3 years of defense-focused experience to join its Houston, TX office. This role offers the chance to collaborate with seasoned litigators on a range of matters, including product, medical, premises liability, and property damage cases. The successful candidate will support the entire litigation lifecycle, from initial intake through trial, in an in-office setting.

Duties

• Collaborate with a supervising partner to oversee a varied docket from matter inception to resolution

• Attend and assist at depositions, mediations, hearings, and trials

• Draft and review written discovery requests and responses; formulate discovery strategies

• Prepare substantive pleadings, motions, briefs, and settlement documents

• Help develop and implement litigation plans tailored to each case

• Maintain communication with clients, furnishing regular status updates and reports

• Support trial preparation by organizing exhibits, drafting trial documents, and coordinating with support staff

Requirements

• 1–3 years of civil and federal defense litigation experience

• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple cases and prioritize tasks effectively

• Experience working in tandem with senior attorneys on complex litigation matters

• Proven writing proficiency, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills

• Comfort participating in depositions, court hearings, and trial proceedings

• Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications

• Admission to the State Bar of Texas (or eligibility to be admitted promptly)
