Job Overview:
A leading national law firm is actively seeking a highly motivated Intellectual Property Associate to join its expanding IP team. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on a wide range of patent prosecution and related matters across industries in a collaborative, client-focused environment. The ideal candidate will have technical proficiency and experience in patent preparation and prosecution.

Location:

• Houston, TX

Duties:

• Prepare and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications

• Conduct due diligence and assist with freedom-to-operate and invalidity analyses

• Develop IP strategies tailored to clients’ business goals

• Provide technical and legal analysis to support litigation and transactional IP matters

• Collaborate with other attorneys and technical experts across offices

• Maintain compliance with USPTO and international filing requirements

• Communicate with inventors, in-house counsel, and engineering teams

Requirements:

• 2–4 years of meaningful experience in patent prosecution (firm or in-house)

• Background in mechanical, electrical, chemical engineering, or computer science

• Strong understanding of U.S. patent laws and USPTO procedures

• Due diligence experience is a plus

• Demonstrated client service and organizational abilities

Education:

• J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications:

• Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (must be in good standing in the state of one of the listed office locations)

• Admission to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) required
