Job Overview:
An elite law firm is seeking a skilled and experienced Patent Agent to join its Chemistry & Life Sciences Patent Prosecution team. This full-time position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge innovations at the intersection of biology and technology, including bioinformatics, computational biology, and artificial intelligence. The ideal candidate will bring a strong technical background, at least three years of patent prosecution experience, and a deep understanding of both software and life sciences fields.
Location:
Raleigh, NC
Duties:
Draft and prosecute domestic and international patent applications in the life sciences and software sectors
Conduct prior art searches and prepare patentability, freedom-to-operate, and landscape analyses
Collaborate with inventors and scientific personnel to evaluate new inventions and generate detailed disclosures
Prepare responses to USPTO Office Actions and participate in examiner interviews
Support patent portfolio strategy, management, and client counseling
Contribute to IP due diligence efforts for transactions involving emerging technologies
Requirements:
Minimum of 3 years of experience in patent prosecution in life sciences, computational biology, or related fields
Demonstrated expertise in technologies involving bioinformatics, AI, or computational biology
Detail-oriented with strong project management skills
Availability to provide writing samples and academic transcripts
Education:
Advanced degree preferred (MS or PhD) in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Artificial Intelligence, or a closely related scientific field
Certifications:
Registration with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) required
Skills:
Excellent technical and legal writing skills
Strong verbal communication and interpersonal abilities
Proficient in preparing and managing patent filings and prosecution strategies
Ability to work collaboratively with attorneys, inventors, and clients
Familiarity with patent databases and docketing systems
