General Liability Attorney

A law firm in Omaha is seeking a General Liability Attorney with over 5 years of experience defending general liability claims. The role involves various responsibilities, including gathering and analyzing medical evidence, conducting depositions, performing legal research, and representing clients at hearings and trials. The ideal candidate should have a J.D., proof of admission to the Nebraska Bar and Iowa Bar and a working knowledge of legal principles and practices. A portable business is a plus.

Duties:

• Gather and analyze medical evidence and records.
• Depose plaintiffs, physicians, experts, and other parties/witnesses.
• Conduct discovery and perform legal research.
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, opinions, and other legal documents.
• Represent clients or insurers at hearings, trials, depositions, mediations, and other proceedings.
• Communicate with claims representatives.
• Assist in the investigation and analysis of accidents and potential claims.
• Manage costs to reduce liability.
• Compile and submit reports required by company management.
• Coordinate and attend claims reviews.
• Negotiate settlements on behalf of clients and insurance carriers.
• Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• J.D. and proof of admission to the Nebraska Bar and Iowa Bar.
• 5+ years of experience defending general liability claims.
• Working knowledge of legal principles and practices.
• In-depth knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
• Thorough knowledge of legal research techniques and legal terminology.
• Microsoft Word experience required; legal software experience preferred.
• Outstanding organizational, interpersonal, and research skills.
• Excellent attention to detail with the ability to multi-task.
• Excellent telephone and writing skills.
