Summer 2023 Legal Internship
The intern will join the Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic Project. Will work as part of a law firm that encourages all staff members and volunteers to use the law to fight poverty and racism, empower clients, and improve access to justice. Handle a wide range of assignments and will have opportunities for direct client contact, attending court and administrative proceedings, and strategizing with firm attorneys on their individual cases. Research and writing. Client interaction (meetings and phone calls). Drafting pleadings and correspondence. Hearing preparation and attendance. Investigation and development of facts in individual cases. Strategizing with firm attorneys on individual cases. Attending meetings, training, and education sessions. Dedication to the mission of Indiana Legal Services, which is to use the law to fight poverty and racism, empower clients, and improve access to justice, is required. Must have enrollment in law school or recent graduation from law school. Should have excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability and willingness to learn are needed. The ability to work as a team member and collaborate with others is required. Must have the ability to comply with firm policies and procedures and competently perform all job duties. Trial practice, professional ethics course completion, and certified legal intern status are qualifications that may be helpful.
