Data, Privacy, And Cybersecurity Associate Attorney
Job Overview:
A Washington, D.C.-based law firm is partnering with a recruitment agency to identify a legal associate with 1-3 years of post-qualification experience in data protection, technology transactions, and cyber risk management. The selected candidate will support clients across a spectrum of corporate and technology-driven matters, such as mergers and acquisitions, public market activity, and strategic commercial contracts. The role offers exposure to evolving regulatory frameworks and high-growth sectors, including fintech, AI, and cloud platforms.
Duties:
Advise on privacy, cybersecurity, and data lifecycle compliance in the context of business transactions
Conduct legal due diligence and draft/assess privacy-related terms in M&A and investment documents
Guide domestic and global data governance frameworks (e.g., GDPR, CCPA)
Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams on corporate structuring and strategic growth deals
Support clients in assessing cyber incident readiness and regulatory disclosures
Engage with clients in technology-driven sectors to ensure alignment with legal obligations and risk posture
Interpret and apply developments in policy, regulatory enforcement, and technology standards
Requirements:
1-3 years of relevant legal experience, ideally within a law firm or corporate legal department
Strong familiarity with corporate transactions, including capital markets and private equity deals
Demonstrated knowledge of data privacy laws and cybersecurity regulations
Experience working with clients in innovation-focused industries
Willingness to engage with fast-evolving legal and technological landscapes
Education:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
Certifications:
Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) preferred
