Job Overview

A law firm seeks a highly motivated Associate Attorney in New York, NY. The ideal candidate will have at least five years of defense litigation experience and be licensed to practice in New York courts. Additional state admissions, such as New Jersey, are preferred.

Duties

• Draft, prepare, and handle pleadings, motions, orders, and legal memoranda.
• Draft and respond to written discovery and dispositive motions.
• Conduct legal research competently and with proficiency.
• Prepare and take depositions of parties and experts.
• Review client documents, draft case evaluations, and status report correspondence.
• Review, assess, and handle matters from inception to trial.
• Assist with and participate in mediations and court appearances.
• Interact directly with clients, claim professionals, opposing counsel, colleagues, and staff.

Requirements

• Licensed to practice in New York courts.
• Five years of defense litigation experience.
• Additional state admissions preferred.

Education

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Bar admission in New York.

Skills

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong legal research and analytical skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail with superb organization and prioritization skills.
• Knowledge of both state and federal court procedures.
• Proficiency with MS Office, including Excel and Outlook.
