Duties

• Lead and manage U.S. and international patent prosecution matters
• Develop and execute patent portfolio strategies aligned with client business goals
• Draft and prosecute complex patent applications in hard science disciplines
• Conduct freedom-to-operate, patentability, and infringement analyses
• Provide IP due diligence support for mergers, acquisitions, and licensing deals
• Mentor junior attorneys, patent agents, and technical staff
• Interface directly with inventors, in-house counsel, and business stakeholders
• Assist with occasional post-grant proceedings and litigation support as needed

Requirements

• 20 years of substantive patent prosecution and counseling experience in a law firm setting
• Deep technical fluency in hard sciences
• Proven ability to manage large, complex portfolios and marquee clients
• Strong writing, drafting, and oral advocacy skills
• Portable business is a plus (not mandatory)

Education

• J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school
• Undergraduate or advanced degree in a hard science

Certifications

• Active admission to at least one U.S. state bar (California admission preferred or willingness to obtain)
• Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
