Job Overview:
A nationally recognized law firm is seeking a Career Associate Attorney with 2 to 4 years of transactional or public finance experience to join its Public Finance Group. This position offers an alternative to the partner track while allowing for involvement in sophisticated legal work on a flexible schedule. The role includes advising on a wide range of tax-exempt and taxable financing transactions involving government entities, nonprofits, and private sector participants across the U.S. and its territories.
Location:
Washington, DC
Duties:
Assist with public finance transactions, including municipal bonds, notes, and structured financings
Advise state and local governments, 501(c)(3) organizations, and private entities on tax-exempt and taxable financing matters
Support projects in sectors including infrastructure, healthcare, education, energy, housing, and transportation
Participate in deal structuring, due diligence, and document preparation
Contribute to legal analysis related to IRS audits, SEC enforcement, and public-private partnerships
Prepare legal documents, conduct legal research, and support client communication
Requirements:
2 to 4 years of relevant experience in public finance, securities, or general transactional law
Strong interest in long-term legal practice outside the traditional partner track
Excellent academic credentials
Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines
Education:
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
Certifications:
Bar admission in West Virginia or another state where the candidate resides (or eligibility to waive in)
Skills:
Exceptional writing and document drafting abilities
Solid understanding of finance and transactional principles
Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a client-focused environment
Comfort handling complex legal issues with precision and attention to detail
