Job Title: Energy, Environmental, And Infrastructure Associate Attorney
Job Overview:
A respected law firm based in New York City, NY, is seeking a mid-level associate attorney to support its expanding Energy, Environmental, and Infrastructure practice. The position is ideal for a candidate with 3 to 7 years of experience handling sophisticated transactional matters related to energy, natural resources, and infrastructure. The role includes engagement in project development, M&A, and complex commercial agreements, particularly within the renewable energy sector. This opportunity is offered through a legal recruiting firm on behalf of the hiring law firm.
Duties:
Manage and advise on transactional matters involving energy and natural resources projects
Draft, review, and negotiate agreements such as:
Power purchase agreements (PPAs)
Operations and maintenance (O&M) agreements
Shared facilities agreements
Build-to-transfer and procurement contracts
Participate in M&A transactions and joint ventures in the energy sector
Support project development initiatives involving renewable and traditional energy assets
Contribute to complex deal structuring and documentation
Interact with clients, counterparties, and stakeholders on high-value projects
Handle or support EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contracts for energy facilities
Provide transactional support for financing arrangements within the sector
Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams across practice areas
Requirements:
3-7 years of post-JD experience at a law firm with a strong transactional background
Direct experience in energy-related transactions, preferably within renewable energy
Familiarity with infrastructure, construction, or natural resource legal frameworks
Exposure to energy-related M&A, joint ventures, or financing structures
Experience in oil and gas transactions is considered an asset
Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Education:
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
Certifications:
Admission to the New York State Bar (or ability to obtain promptly)
Skills:
Exceptional drafting and negotiation skills
Strong business acumen and deal management capabilities
Ability to collaborate with internal teams and external parties
Effective communicator with excellent client-facing abilities
Proven capacity to handle complex legal and regulatory matters with autonomy
