Global Legal Innovation Supervisor

Duties: The candidate will examine and analyze current business processes making recommendations for improving quality and/or increasing efficiency within practice operations. Interpret business strategy and determine innovative solutions supporting Firm and department strategy implementation and positioning. Oversee collaboration with practice groups and clients to identify opportunities for innovation, and design solutions to meet their needs. Develop quarterly/semi-annual/annual evaluation plan that integrates into and supports the broader Departmental annual plan. Implement & follow up on continuing priorities of leadership, ensuring alignment with department goals, self-initiated standards, and risk management requirements. Lead the department to identify and improve key performance indicators, institute project evaluation instruments, and provide regular updates to department leadership regarding evidence-based suggestions for growth. Support/facilitate the implementation of systems and processes that improve service delivery. Achieve consensus with Department leadership regarding department priorities and key metrics of performance/quality. Help educate all stakeholders on the value of holistic innovation. Understand and improve law firm rankings, industry innovation lists, firm/panel surveys and scorecards, and attorney feedback measurements.Plan and coordinate additional operations of the Department at the direction of the GADI or Chief Innovation Officer (CINO. Identify and oversee the creation and use of appropriate instruments to evaluate tool performance and project success based on stated goals and needed outcomes. Identify appropriate analytical techniques (e.g., mining, classification, prediction, retrospective statistical techniques) needed to understand project performance and business processes, trends, and needs, and oversee their implementation. Partner with the Firm’s Data Architect and Data/Business Analyst to collect relevant Mayer Brown and industry data in order to develop benchmarks, models, visualizations, reports, and other measures as needed by the Department. Assist in surfacing and supporting Firm’s strategy for data solutions, including practice-specific solutions, client-facing opportunities, or potential new lines of business. Work with Legal Process Improvement colleagues to develop and conduct process improvement activities that focus on improving quality and efficiency of services and internal processes. Coordinate departmental response to risk standards; work with Risk Management to streamline evaluation process, including creating standard work and policies where possible. Oversee coordination of intradepartmental collaborative efforts. This would include coordinating the work of the Department’s Legal Innovation Analyst, Data Innovation Analyst, Technology Innovation Analyst and any future Process Innovation Analyst to design practice and/or client solutions. (Note: here, coordination would entail ensuring the solutions meet the objective, are cohesive, and ready to be evaluated by a broader audience). Oversee coordination of interdepartmental collaborative efforts. This will include overseeing the creation of sufficient documentation and training plans as necessary to hand off to the product’s owner. This role will also liaise with IT or other necessary departments to ensure innovation projects are compliant with Firm requirements and that technology support sufficiently meets project needs. Supervise the prototyping and building of legal and practice solutions as necessary. Provide presentations and demonstrations of Innovation Team products and solutions to lawyers and practice groups. Contribute to the assessment and selection of legal technology tools, data, and process initiatives. Maintain current understanding of innovation, program evaluation and quality theory, measures, methods, and standards. Proactively acquire new industry, data, technology, and process improvement knowledge and skills that promote the continuous improvement of the department. Actively participate in the development and review of policies and procedures (governance) that affect innovation. Help foster industry collaboration (e.g., work with law schools, “hackathons,” or client collaboration) as directed by department leadership.
