Job Title: Associate Attorney

A well-established law firm based in Charleston, WV, is currently seeking a driven and detail-oriented Litigation Associate to join its expanding legal team. The role provides hands-on exposure to a broad range of general liability matters, including construction-related defense and premises liability cases. Duties:

• Manage defense litigation matters from inception through trial

• Draft pleadings, legal memoranda, motions, and court orders

• Conduct depositions of parties and expert witnesses

• Prepare discovery requests and responses, including dispositive motions

• Engage in legal research and prepare summaries and reports for internal and client use

• Interact with clients, adjusters, opposing counsel, and court personnel

• Participate in mediations, hearings, and other court proceedings

• Review and evaluate documents and provide litigation strategies

Requirements:

• Active license to practice law in West Virginia

• 0-3 years of litigation experience preferred (entry-level candidates also considered)

• Familiarity with general liability defense, including construction and premises-related cases

• Additional State Bar admissions are considered advantageous

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

• Admission to practice in West Virginia State Courts

• Admission to federal courts is a plus

Skills:

• Ability to manage multiple cases with attention to detail

• Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook and Excel

• Familiarity with court rules and litigation procedures at both the state and federal levels

• The capability to work both independently and within a team environment
