A law firm seeks a Land Use and Zoning Associate to join its growing team in Newark, NJ. This position offers an opportunity to work on diverse and high-profile cases involving land use approvals and zoning regulations across residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments. As part of a dynamic Redevelopment Law team, the selected candidate will gain exposure to a broad range of legal matters related to land development and governmental processes.

Duties:

  • Represent property owners and other stakeholders in obtaining land use approvals and permits for a variety of development projects, including residential, retail, office, industrial, and mixed-use properties.
  • Present zoning and land use applications before municipal and county planning boards and zoning boards.
  • Navigate the New Jersey Municipal Land Use Law to secure necessary permits and approvals for development projects.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to draft and negotiate redevelopment agreements and financial agreements.
  • Work closely with clients and government agencies, ensuring effective communication and legal support throughout the redevelopment process.
  • Stay updated on evolving land use regulations, public incentives, and government programs that affect development projects.

Requirements:

  • 4-6 years of experience in land use and zoning law.
  • Proven experience presenting applications before municipal and county planning and zoning boards.
  • Strong understanding of the New Jersey Municipal Land Use Law.
  • Excellent research and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with redevelopment law, including drafting and negotiating redevelopment and financial agreements, is an advantage.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and interact directly with clients.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school with a solid academic record.

Certifications:

  • Must be licensed to practice law in New Jersey.

Skills:

  • Strong legal research and writing abilities.
  • Excellent oral advocacy and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage complex legal issues and client relationships.
  • Strong negotiation skills, particularly in redevelopment and zoning contexts.
  • Proficiency in navigating the legal and regulatory landscape related to land use and zoning in New Jersey.
