Job Overview:
A growing defense law firm is seeking an Associate Attorney to join their legal team in Houston, TX. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated attorney interested in handling Defense Base Act (DBA) claims. The ideal candidate will have strong legal analysis skills, the ability to communicate effectively with clients and the Department of Labor, and a keen attention to detail. This role provides the opportunity for professional development and training from experienced attorneys in the DBA field.

Location:

  • Houston, TX

Duties:

  • Assist with managing a docket involving Defense Base Act claims.

  • Provide legal analysis, draft petitions, and communicate with clients, the Department of Labor, and opposing counsel.

  • Review, analyze, and summarize claims documents, including medical records, incident reports, and employment files.

  • Perform legal analysis of files to assess the likelihood of recovery and identify additional documentation necessary for recovery.

  • Participate in conferences with the Department of Labor to resolve claims.

  • Communicate effectively with clients regarding issues related to the Defense Base Act and War Hazards Compensation Act.

  • Appear in court as needed for hearings and other legal proceedings.

  • Conduct consultations with potential clients and assist with drafting legal documents.

Requirements:

  • Licensed to practice law in the state of Texas, or planning to take the bar exam in February.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to perform under pressure.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • High attention to detail and organizational skills.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the Texas State Bar or scheduled to take the bar exam in February.

Skills:

  • Strong legal analysis and drafting skills.

  • Proficient in communication with clients, opposing counsel, and government agencies.

  • Ability to manage complex legal matters effectively.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.

  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining professionalism.
