Profile

A law firm based in Washington, D.C., is seeking a Mid-level Derivatives Associate Attorney with 3-6 years of experience. The ideal candidate will have expertise in derivatives regulation, enforcement, and investigations, particularly related to the Commodity Exchange Act (CEA), Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), and Self-Regulatory Organization (SRO) rules. Strong attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, resourcefulness, and excellent interpersonal skills are essential for building relationships with clients and firm attorneys.

 

Job Duties:

  • Provide legal advice and support on derivatives regulation, enforcement, and investigations.
  • Analyze and interpret regulatory requirements, including the CEA, CFTC regulations, and SRO rules.
  • Assist in the representation of clients involved in matters related to swap dealers, futures commission merchants, commodity pool operators, and commodity trading advisors.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis on derivatives-related issues and developments.
  • Draft legal documents, including memoranda, opinions, and regulatory filings.
  • Collaborate with clients and firm attorneys to develop strategies and solutions for derivatives-related matters.
  • Assist in responding to regulatory inquiries, investigations, and enforcement actions.
  • Stay current on developments in derivatives law, regulation, and enforcement.

 

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the District of Columbia Bar or eligibility for admission via examination or waiver.
  • 3-6 years of experience in derivatives regulation, enforcement, or investigations, preferably in a law firm or regulatory agency.
  • Strong understanding of the CEA, CFTC regulations, and SRO rules.
  • Excellent analytical, research, and writing skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Intellectual curiosity and willingness to learn and adapt to new legal developments.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with clients and colleagues.
