A law firm seeks a dedicated Local Government Attorney to join its Tampa office. This position is designed for professionals with at least 3 years of experience in local government law who are looking to advance their careers in a dynamic and supportive environment. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in government law, with a strong understanding of procurement, public records, ethics, and local government operations. Litigation experience is a bonus, and candidates should be comfortable traveling throughout the area for various government-related matters.

Duties

  • Provide legal counsel on a wide range of issues related to local government law, including government contracts and procurement, public records laws, and government ethics.
  • Advise local government entities on compliance with Sunshine laws and other relevant regulations.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate government contracts and other related documents.
  • Represent government clients in various legal proceedings, including litigation when necessary.
  • Conduct legal research and provide strategic guidance on complex government law matters.
  • Attend and participate in local government meetings, hearings, and events as required.
  • Foster relationships with government officials and other stakeholders.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience practicing local government law, with a focus on contracts, procurement, ethics, and public records.
  • Comfortable with government regulations and the intricacies of local governmental structures.
  • Ability to manage complex legal issues independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Must be comfortable traveling within the region for government-related meetings and events.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Member in good standing of the Florida Bar.

Skills

  • Strong legal research, writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret complex government laws and regulations and apply them effectively.
  • Litigation experience is a plus but not required.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professional and confident in interacting with government officials and clients.
