Director of SEC Securities Policy
The candidate will closely monitor and engage in activities at the SEC and other entities involved in securities-related matters, as well as developments in the industry. Perform detailed analyses related to the securities market; identify issues, challenges, and problems; develop policy and regulatory recommendations; and broadly participate in the rulemaking process. Conceptualize, author and issue briefs, reports, white papers, Op-Eds, and other documents and products for a range of audiences on key and emerging issues. Participate in panels and other public discussions, as well as briefings with allies, Congressional, regulatory, Administration staff and others. Collaborate with the communications team and engage with reporters and the media on areas of expertise as appropriate. Support development and fundraising efforts and activities. Bachelor’s degree, ideally with a focus in finance, business administration, economics, or a related field. JD or other advanced degree preferred. Should have 7 years of experience in the financial services industry, at financial regulatory agencies, and/or in a related financial arena. In-depth knowledge of the securities laws and rules as well as the Dodd-Frank Act is necessary and familiarity with ESG/climate, racial justice, and poverty issues is desirable. Extremely strong written and verbal communication skills. Track record of taking initiative, working independently, seeing and seizing opportunities as well as working with allied organizations and collaborators. A commitment to being a team player and working in and fostering a collegial work environment. Superior organizational skills, including the ability to work effectively and collegially under tight deadlines and pressure while handling multiple projects simultaneously and being nimble and flexible in prioritizing and managing an often substantial workflow. Working at a nonprofit, an advocacy organization, and with fundraisers or development professionals is also a plus. A great sense of humor and a passion for the public interest is essential.
