Consumer Watchdog Communications Manager

Responsibilities: Serve as a spokesperson for campaigns through media events, press releases and opinion writing. Keep abreast of consumer issues. Raise the profile of consumer issues in the media. Identify breaking news stories or trends of failures in the marketplace that hurt consumers. Help develop messaging related to campaigns. Rapidly respond to help warn the public about these dangers and potential solutions. Compose news releases, opinion pieces, editorial board memos, email alerts, guides, and blog posts on key issues for program. Develop media strategies to build access with critical media outlets and reporters to help make us the go-to experts on a host of consumer issues. Develop online strategies, including posting on social media and developing graphics or videos, to reach the public and key influencers through social media. Write grant proposals. Build relationships with foundations. Meet with major donors to bring more resources to campaigns. Work with citizen outreach staff to build and deepen membership base. Recruit new staff and volunteers. Oversee other staff working on Consumer Program team. Coordinate with state staff and provide training and leadership development.
