Unit Manager, Ceded Reinsurance (Asbestos, Pollution & Other Health Hazards)

The candidate will lead a team of ceded reinsurance specialists in billing, notifications, and collecting ceded recoverables for multiple portfolio(s) on complex asbestos, pollution and other health hazard claims (APO claims). Drive the resolution of ceded recoverables in a timely fashion. Promote and facilitate technical training and expertise of the team. Encourage teamwork and cross-department collaboration. Support associate’s cession positioning and correspondence with the market. Partner with associates in the escalation of potentially disputed cessions, making provision recommendations, and formulating and executing disposition strategy for disputed matters. Partner with internal reinsurance counsel on disputed matters. Design and lead the team’s efforts to mitigate Schedule F penalties. Mastery of asbestos, pollution and other health hazard claims and legacy reinsurance cession concepts. Identify and solution blockers and design and implement more effective and efficient processes. Mentor, champion and coach team members toward the achievement of career goals. Promote an empowering, engaging and inclusive team. Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external business partners. Ensure accuracy of records and adherence to internal controls. Participate in internal and external financial audits as they relate to disputed ceded recoverables. Assist in the production of business reports and analytics. Maintain a high degree of confidentiality. Conduct all responsibilities consistent with established protocols and processes adhering to established internal controls. Support intercompany initiatives and/or participate on company-wide committees. Support commutations, novation’s, consolidations, acquisitions, and migrations as needed. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required. Master’s or JD is a plus. Must have 10+ years of related ceded reinsurance experience as noted above and a strong background in billing and collecting open recoverables relating to asbestos, pollution and other health hazard claims. Leadership and/or supervisory experience is preferred.
