Oil & Gas Attorney
The candidate will represent state client agencies to ensure that the State's vast oil, gas, and geothermal resources are responsibly managed, and revenues from royalties and taxes are received. Primarily will advise on upstream and midstream oil and gas issues, including exploration, leasing, unitization, royalties, pipeline right-of-way leasing, and tariff protests. May also represent the Department of Revenue in state tax matters, including oil and gas production tax, corporate income tax, oil and gas property tax, and various state excise taxes. In addition to transactional work, represent client agencies in state and federal courts, including trial and appellate courts, and before administrative agencies. Assist client agencies in the review and drafting of state statutes and regulations, as well as comments and litigation on federal statutes and regulations. Some travel may be required. Applicants with experience in the oil and gas industry or energy sector, or state tax litigation are strongly preferred. Experience in bankruptcy is also highly desired. Must have strong communication, oral advocacy, writing, and time management skills; must demonstrate excellent professional judgment and must exhibit an interest in working on complex matters. Applicants should be highly motivated and able to work as a member of a team with minimal supervision.
