A law firm seeks a seasoned civil rights litigator with 16 years of courtroom experience to join their team in Washington, D.C. The successful candidate will lead complex federal and state civil rights cases, guide litigation strategy from inception through appeal, and mentor junior attorneys.

Duties

• Lead all phases of civil rights litigation, including pleadings, discovery, hearings, trials, and appeals.
• Develop and implement case strategies tailored to client objectives and risk profiles.
• Draft and argue dispositive motions, briefs, and oral arguments before federal and state courts.
• Manage large-scale discovery, including depositions, document review, and motion practice.
• Advise clients on exposure, settlement strategy, and trial readiness.
• Mentor and supervise associates and paralegals on substantive and procedural matters.
• Collaborate with experts, co-counsel, and external stakeholders to strengthen case positions.

Requirements

• 16 years of civil rights litigation experience in federal and state courts.
• Active membership in the Washington, D.C. Bar (or eligibility for admission).
• Proven track record of courtroom success at trial and appellate levels.
• Exceptional legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
• Strong leadership and case-management abilities, with experience supervising teams.
• Demonstrated capacity to cultivate and maintain client relationships.

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• Bachelor's degree in related field.

Certifications

• Admission to the Washington, D.C. Bar.
• Federal District Court admission preferred.

Skills

• Expert knowledge of civil rights statutes, including 42 U.S.C. 1983 and Title VII.
• Advanced proficiency with Westlaw, LexisNexis, and e-discovery platforms.
