Job Overview:
A nationally recognized law firm is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Patent Agent to join its Chemistry & Life Sciences Patent Prosecution team. This full-time role focuses on innovations at the intersection of software and biology, including bioinformatics, computational biology, artificial intelligence, and related technologies. The ideal candidate will have advanced scientific training, strong writing skills, and several years of experience in patent prosecution.

Location:

• Atlanta, GA

Duties:

• Draft and prosecute patent applications related to life sciences, computational biology, and AI technologies

• Conduct technical research and patentability analyses

• Prepare responses to U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) office actions

• Collaborate with inventors, scientists, and corporate clients to evaluate new inventions

• Support portfolio management and strategic intellectual property planning

• Review invention disclosures and identify patentable subject matter

• Provide support for IP due diligence and freedom-to-operate analysis

Requirements:

• Minimum 3 years of patent prosecution experience in life sciences or software-related technologies

• Deep familiarity with bioinformatics, computational biology, and/or artificial intelligence

• Demonstrated ability to manage complex technical subject matter and deadlines

• Writing samples and academic transcripts required for consideration

Education:

• Advanced degree (MS or PhD preferred) in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, AI, or closely related scientific field

Certifications:

• USPTO registration required

Skills:

• Exceptional technical and legal writing skills

• Strong verbal communication and client collaboration abilities

• Ability to handle a variety of patent prosecution tasks independently

• Meticulous attention to detail and organization

• Proficiency with patent-related software and databases
