Assistant Director/Civil Rights And Inst Equity
The candidate reports to the Executive Director of Civil Rights and Institutional Equity and Title IX Coordinator. Responsible for receiving, conducting, and leading prompt, thorough, and impartial investigations of all reported cases of harassment, discrimination, sexual misconduct, and/or retaliation arising under the University’s Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action Protocol and the University’s Sexual Misconduct Policy. Responsible for working with the Executive Director in reviewing and updating standard protocols for investigations, including communication with the parties, communication with other relevant personnel, documentation of investigative work and other investigative procedures. Helps design and conduct effective trainings and educational opportunities on the concepts of harassment, discrimination, and sexual misconduct. Assists in the implementation and monitoring of the University’s Affirmative Action program and reviewing, writing, and revising University policies, procedures, and reports. Receives, conducts, and leads prompt, thorough, and impartial investigations of all reported cases of harassment, discrimination, sexual misconduct, and/or retaliation arising under the University’s Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action Protocol and the University’s Sexual Misconduct Policy. Works with the Executive Director in reviewing and updating standard protocols for investigations, including communication with the parties, communication with other relevant personnel, documentation of investigative work and other investigative procedures. Monitors all federal and state regulations regarding equal opportunity, affirmative action, Title VI and VII of the Civil Rights Act, Title IX of the Education Amendments, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 503/504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Age Discrimination Act, the Vietnam Era Veterans’ Readjustment Assistance Act, the Violence Against Women’s Reauthorization Act, Elliott Larsen Civil Rights Act, and any other federal or state anti-discrimination law or regulation; stays current regarding new laws and regulations to maintain university compliance; and advises the Executive Director of the Office of Civil Rights and Institutional Equity. In conjunction with the Executive Director, helps develop programs and provides training (forums, workshops, speakers, and activities) related to issues such as: affirmative action, diversity, discrimination, equal employment, harassment, and sexual misconduct. Assists the Executive Director in reviewing, writing, and/or revising university policies, procedures, and reports. Assists Executive Director in responding to questions and requests for information to maintain compliance with Federal and State laws and regulations. Assists the Executive Director in collecting data, preparing reports, and monitoring and updating the University’s Affirmative Action program, and reviews and meets with appropriate personnel about the Affirmative Action program. Assists the Executive Director with Senior Officer searches (posting, recruitment, targeting resources, monitoring pools, waivers, interview questions, and justifications). In conjunction with the Executive Director, performs special projects, prepares reports and surveys for the President’s Office, the Provost or other executive officer, as requested. Prepares, edits and monitors Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity, and Sexual Misconduct publications, training materials, op-ed news articles, advertisements and the department website.
